Kalev captain Marten Martinson
“Our biggest rival, Märjamaa Vikat, is a strong team that has stood out for years with their physical game and experience. This year’s title is particularly special because it shows that Estonian rugby has undergone a generational change and a new wave of players has emerged. Our game plan was simple — avoid unnecessary risks and focus on teamwork, speed and endurance. That’s what brought us the result.”
Bronze medal for youth side
One of the day’s most memorable performances came from the Sohni/Kirbla combined squad — a debut team composed primarily of youth players who earned a bronze medal, defeating Estonian Old Boys & Tartu 21–15 in the decisive match. This result gives cause for optimism about the future of Estonian Olympic rugby and shows that investment in young players’ development is bearing fruit.
International element raised the level
Latvian club Fēnikss brought a high standard, defeating two clubs, drawing with Märjamaa Vikat 17–17, and only losing to Tallinn Kalev 10–17. Their participation raised the overall standard of the tournament and continues the tradition of Estonian and Latvian clubs maintaining close ties.
